A deliciously decadent kid-friendly recipe for chocolate covered strawberry oatmeal. Yes, you can have chocolate for breakfast!

This recipe is simple and easy and uses just a handful of ingredients. The strawberries add a perfect sweetness to the decadent and creamy chocolate oatmeal base. My 3 and 4 year old love this recipe and I like to enjoy it with them, too.

Gather your ingredients, here is everything you will need to make this recipe:

Rolled Oats – we love Bob’s Red Mill old fashioned rolled oats, but any brand of oats will do! You can also use steel cut oats or quick oats and just adjust the cooking time according to the package.

Water – I prefer to cook my oats in water, but you could also sub milk or a milk substitute. Use filtered water for the best taste.

Chia Seeds – chia seeds are an excelled source of fiber, protein, and healthy fats (especially beneficial for kids). I love adding them to all of my oatmeal recipes since you barely know they are there and have these awesome nutritional benefits!

Milk – I love to stir in some milk after cooking to give my oatmeal a super creamy finish. I use whole milk because that is what we have on hand for our kids. You could use skim, 2% milk, or any milk alternative (we also love coconut milk & ripple milk).

Cocoa – the chocolatey goodness in this recipe some straight from high-fat cocoa powder. I have also subbed this with chocolate protein powder. It does impact the taste a little bit, but will be higher in protein, of course, so you can choose which one you would like to use.

Strawberries – you will want fresh ripe strawberries for this recipe, or you can thaw some frozen strawberries to use if needed.

Honey – honey is optional, but can be used for added sweetness. I like to add about 2 Tbsp for this recipe, but you can add more or less to taste.

Optional Ingredients: chocolate chips, shredded unsweetened coconut, and sliced strawberries for garnish. I love to add some garnish on top to make it look extra delicious and even more decadent.
